Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck) was an American actor and singer whose career spanned over 40 years. London was a torch performer who was known for her smooth, soft voice. She recorded more than 30 albums of pop and jazz standards from 1955 until 1969. Her rendition of "Cry Me a River" the track she introduced on her debut album was accepted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. Alongside her note on the music, London was nominated for an award called a Golden Globe Award in 1974 for her role as nurse Dixie McCall in the television series Emergency!. London was born in Santa Rosa to vaudevillian parents. Her career began as an actress while she worked as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles. London's career in acting lasted 35 years. It began in 1944 , with roles in films. This included roles as the lead female role in several westerns. She also appeared with Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951), John Cassavetes and Robert Taylor in Saddle the Wind (1958), Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) and Robert Mitchum with The Wonderful Country (1959). She signed a recording contract with Liberty Records in the mid-1950s. It was the beginning of her professional musical career. Her final studio album was released in 1969. She maintained her popularity in the role of the female main character in the role of Dixie McCall on the television show Emergency! (1972-1979) during which she was co-starring with Bobby Troup. The show was created by her former husband Jack Webb.
